Nymph
Duracell Nymph
Short answer
The Duracell Nymph is an euro-nymph that imitates mayfly nymphs, with a UV-active attractor sheen. It is usually tied in sizes 14 to 18. Fish it year round. Especially useful on pressured water where fish have learned the more obvious hot-spot patterns.
Nymph Intermediate #14-#18
Jig-style with UV brown body (purple sheen); versatile attractor/mayfly imitator.
Printed on the 2 of diamonds
The Duracell takes its name from the battery, because the body has the same coppery-bronze look with a purple sheen shifting through it. The effect comes from UV-active dubbing, and under water it produces a color that is genuinely difficult to describe and apparently very difficult for trout to ignore.
Structurally it is a modern competition nymph: a jig hook, a slotted tungsten bead, a slim tapered body and a soft hackle collar. The jig hook rides point-up, so it snags far less on the bottom, which matters when the whole technique depends on fishing within an inch of the riverbed.
It sits in the same family as the Frenchie and the Perdigon and is fished the same way. Where it differs is color: on days when hot-spot pink has been shown to every fish in the run, the Duracell's more muted, ambiguous shimmer often keeps producing.
What does a Duracell Nymph imitate?
Mayfly nymphs, with a UV-active attractor sheen.
How do you fish a Duracell Nymph?
Built for tight-line and Euro-nymphing: short upstream casts, rod tip leading the fly, constant contact, no indicator. Also works as the point fly in a conventional rig.
When should you fish a Duracell Nymph?
Year round. Especially useful on pressured water where fish have learned the more obvious hot-spot patterns.
What are the quick tips for fishing it?
- Fish it as the anchor with a lighter nymph on a dropper above.
- Slotted tungsten on a jig hook — the point-up ride is half the value.
- A good rotation fly when a Frenchie stops producing.
How is a Duracell Nymph tied?
- Hook: jig nymph hook, #14-#18
- Bead: slotted tungsten
- Tail: coq de Leon fibres
- Body: UV-active bronze/purple dubbing, wire ribbed
- Collar: soft hackle or hot spot dubbing
Dressings vary by tier and region. Treat this as the common recipe, not the only one.
